Mercury forms a sextile to Pluto this morning, improving our ability to see more layers of a situation. We might discover new information that gives us an edge or finally “see” the truth of a matter we avoided in the past. It’s a powerful time to look more deeply into a topic. We benefit from being patient and strategic in our decision-making, and we’re willing to look beyond the surface of things. Conversations are probing, investigative, and meaningful, and we may come to an improved psychological understanding of our lives. It’s a good time to let go of something that has kept us bound or stuck in a difficult position. The Moon continues its transit of earthy Capricorn until 8:56 PM when it enters objective Aquarius. A Mars-Pallas connection points to the courage and energy to back up our beliefs today.
The void Moon occurs from 7:51 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 8:56 PM EDT.

The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side can include self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
While we may not always verbalize our feelings and impressions during this cycle, they’re strong and motivating. We prefer to believe and trust, giving things/people the benefit of the doubt until they prove us wrong. We might often tune out problems or conflicts rather than tackle them head on, hoping they will iron themselves out. Prosperity flows when we’re connecting with our heart, being kind, and helping others. The need to withdraw or retreat to restore our energy is strong from time to time.
The Sun is in Aries from March 20-April 19. In Aries, the Sun is enthusiastic and spontaneous. We are motivated by the desire to conquer. We are more impulsive and have the urge to initiate.
Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little in the way of shame with Aries. It is brave and pioneering, and somewhat innocent. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted and lack the desire to plan ahead.
Mercury is in Pisces from March 9-27. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style.
We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
It’s not always easy to verbalize our impressions during this cycle. We don’t enjoy pinning down, labeling, or strictly defining things. We recognize that life isn’t always logical, and we prefer not to think in black and white terms. We’re sensitive and impressionable, which means we can take in more than usual, and it can sometimes overwhelm us. Pisces needs periodic time alone or within to regenerate and detox.
Venus is in Aquarius from March 6-April 5. We move towards unconventionality, independence, and freedom as themes in our social relationships under this influence. Aquarius can be just as faithful as Capricorn, but it has to be on its own terms! Experimental relationships are more intriguing now.
Being friends as well as lovers is important to us during this cycle. Allowing one another freedom of expression, and treating others fairly, unselfishly, and impartially, are themes now.
Mars is in Aquarius from March 6-April 14. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit or miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players–cooperative and less concerned about personal power.
We are attracted to unconventional methods, and we tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective during the Mars-in-Aquarius cycle.

Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Aquarius from March 6 to April 5. While Venus was in Capricorn, we valued enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We took expressing our feelings seriously, and we also took our sweet time warming up to others! Generally, we kept our “cool” in relationships. With Venus now in Aquarius, we still keep our “cool” in relationships, but in a detached and impersonal sort of way. Unconventional set-ups become more appealing.
Bringing the spirit of friendship into romantic relationships is a positive use of Venus in Aquarius energy. Relationships that fairly scream “alternative” appeal to us now. It’s all about being open-minded and somewhat detached with Aquarius energy dominating the love arena. With Venus in Aquarius, it may be better to approach dating casually, with no expectations and no strings. Melodrama and emotionalism are not in favor. We may also find ourselves attracted to–or attracting–people who are not our usual “type.”

Venus contra-parallel Uranus March 18. Questions of freedom, change, specialness, and experimentation are raised in our relationships.
Venus square Uranus March 18-19. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting, but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last–but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.
Venus conjunct Saturn March 28. Affections stabilize and mature. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. An air of formality is brought to personal and social relationships. A new sense of realism in existing partnerships comes now. A sense of duty may lead us to sacrifice a personal pleasure for a cause or for a loved one; thus we may have to abstain from personal gratification for the time being. Problems in personal relationships that have been swept under the carpet may surface now, and we are ready to face them. Dissatisfaction with loved ones becomes more glaring. Renewed ties to old friends or lovers are possible, or a new sense of responsibility in existing relationships.
Venus semi-square Mercury April 1. Communications between lovers are superficial and unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. Superficiality in romantic expression may exist now.
Venus semi-square Chiron April 2-3. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves.

Critics raise privacy fears over EU message app rule

WhatsApp and other message apps face being forced by EU law to allow in smaller platforms
Washington (AFP) - The EU will require tech giants to drop barriers between their hugely popular messaging services to boost competition, but critics warned Friday that could come at the cost of millions of users’ privacy.
Praise poured in after negotiators from the European Parliament and EU member states agreed late Thursday on a sweeping law to curb market dominance of US firms like Google, Facebook owner Meta, Amazon and Apple.
But the provision in the legislation that looks set to make big services such as WhatsApp and Apple’s iMessage provide access to smaller operators drew concerns it would compromise the encryption that guards users’ data.
“What we will see here, of course, is a trade-off – a policy that is good for competition but bad for privacy and bad for the product,” tweeted analyst Benedict Evans. “You can never have all three.”
Unlike on cell phones or email, app users can’t send a message from one company’s service to a rival’s, raising the concern that people stick to the biggest platforms because that’s where their contacts are concentrated.
“Users have no choice,” Amandine Le Pape, co-founder of messaging app Element, told the Euractiv news network. “Smaller companies cannot compete because they need to build their own user base from scratch.”
In an attempt to address this, the EU’s new Digital Markets Act (DMA) will impose “interoperability” between apps, all while demanding that communications remain encrypted from user to user.
WhatsApp, for example, has default end-to-end encryption, which means that normally only the sender and recipient have access to a message’s content.
Critics of the new EU rules argued it’s all but impossible to have end-to-end encryption across several platforms.
- ‘World will explode’? -
“Example: Twitter knows me as @SteveBellovin. Apple knows me by AppleID, a personal email address. Signal knows me by my phone number,” tweeted Columbia University computer science professor Steven Bellovin. “Google knows me by my official university email address.”
“You receive a message from WhatsApp user StevenBellovin,” he added. “Who is it? Is it me? An attacker? Or someone else with the same name?”
Evans, the analyst, added in a tweet that “at an absolute minimum you will have to expose metadata. Hilariously, that breaks EU privacy law.”
EU’s competition chief Margrethe Vestager said that after the bloc’s member states and MEPs formally approve the text, it should be published around October.
The first possible fines for non-compliance – as high as 10 percent of a company’s annual global sales and even 20 percent for repeat offenders – are not expected before the first quarter of 2024.
However, other experts noted that there are ways to make message apps secure and interoperable.
“From a technical perspective, it is not particularly complex,” internet regulation specialist Ian Brown told AFP.
“Large companies have strongly resisted the obligation precisely because a lack of interoperability is one of the key factors supporting their incumbency,” he added.
Some of the biggest tech giants that could see their dominance eroded or profits impacted under the DMA have offered a chilly welcome.
Apple, reacting generally to the new law, said Thursday it will create “unnecessary privacy and security vulnerabilities for our users.”
However, Tim Sweeney, who heads Epic Games and has been locked in a legal battle with the iPhone maker over its App Store policies, poked fun at critics.
“Good morning! Today is international ‘If we open up platforms the world will explode day’ sponsored by Big Tech lobbyists and astroturfers,” he tweeted on Friday.

Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) (AFP) - Saudi forces destroyed explosives-laden boats and launched air strikes in Yemen on Saturday after Huthi rebel drones and missiles hit targets around the country, setting off an inferno at an oil plant within sight of Jeddah’s Formula One race.
Three people were killed in the operation against the booby-trapped boats, according to the Saudi-led coalition, which also carried out air raids on the Yemeni cities of Sanaa and Hodeida overnight.
It marked a violent seventh anniversary of the coalition’s military intervention in Saudi Arabia’s impoverished neighbour Yemen, after the Iran-backed Huthis had seized the capital Sanaa in 2014.
Thousands of people marched in Sanaa on Saturday to denounce a conflict that has killed hundreds of thousands directly or indirectly, according to the UN, and left millions on the brink of famine.
However, there were signs of diplomacy as a senior Saudi official told AFP the rebels had offered a ceasefire and peace talks in exchange for opening up Sanaa’s airport and the lifeline port of Hodeida.
“The Huthis put forward an initiative through mediators that includes a truce, opening the airport (Sanaa) and the port (Hodeida) and Yemeni-Yemeni discussions,” said the official, on condition of anonymity.
“We are waiting for it to be officially announced because they (Huthis) are constantly changing their words,” he added. No immediate comment was available from the rebels.
Four boats laden with explosives were destroyed at Salif, a Red Sea port north of Jeddah, a day after the Yemeni attacks on a televised F1 practice day spooked drivers and threw the race into doubt.
“We targeted four booby-trapped boats in Salif port, which is under preparation, and thwarted an imminent attack on oil tankers,” the coalition said, according to state television.
- ‘Drivers still concerned’ -
Drivers returned to the track for the final practice session after hours of talks with F1 and team officials late on Friday and safety assurances from the Saudi government.

“Drivers are not 100 percent happy (or) fully relaxed,” said Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto. “They are still concerned but they have listened to the reassurance and they understand it’s important to stay here and try to race.”
Regular media interviews were cancelled on Friday during the talks over the race’s future. But the pilots’ union, the Grand Prix Drivers Association, said it was a “difficult day for Formula One and a stressful day for us Formula One drivers”.
“Perhaps it is hard to comprehend if you have never driven an F1 car on this fast and challenging Jeddah track, but on seeing the smoke from the incident it was difficult to remain a fully focused race driver and erase natural human concerns,” a statement said.
During “long discussions”, Saudi government ministers “explained how security measures were elevated to the maximum” to allow the race to go ahead, it added.
The attacks on targets including oil facilities, an electrical station and a water plant came as crude prices soar on supply fears following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s biggest oil exporters, has rebuffed calls to pump more oil in a bid to stabilise markets, sticking instead to the steady increases agreed by the OPEC+ alliance, which includes Russia.
Formula One is one of a number of high-profile events brought to Saudi Arabia in recent years, drawing accusations of ‘sportswashing’ – using sports events to distract from criticism of the country’s human rights record.
It is not the first to witness violence. A French driver was seriously injured in a blast at the Dakar Rally hosted by Saudi Arabia in December. French investigators blamed an explosive device planted on his car.
Earlier this month, Saudi authorities executed 81 people in a single day, prompting condemnation from human rights activists who questioned whether they received a fair trial.
