Venus and Mars form trines to the True North Node today, and we’re motivated to grow, improve, and pursue our desires. While some light competition could motivate us now, we are also more dedicated than usual to creating harmony. We might use our people skills or appeal to help us reach our goals. We could feel lucky in love or business, and we might make a fortunate connection. There can be an opportunity to reconnect and realign ourselves with our purpose. There is a sense that we’re heading in the right direction or that we want to take steps to grow and thrive. The Moon spends the day in Aquarius, reinforcing a desire to mingle and share. Conversations later today can be notably heady or practical.

The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side can include self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
While we may not always verbalize our feelings and impressions during this cycle, they’re strong and motivating. We prefer to believe and trust, giving things/people the benefit of the doubt until they prove us wrong. We might often tune out problems or conflicts rather than tackle them head on, hoping they will iron themselves out. Prosperity flows when we’re connecting with our heart, being kind, and helping others. The need to withdraw or retreat to restore our energy is strong from time to time.
Mercury is in Aquarius from February 14-March 9. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, reasonable, objective, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.
We’re reasonable, finding it easier to separate intellect and emotion when assessing a situation. Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021-March 6, 2022. [This is longer than usual due to the Venus retrograde, occurring entirely in the sign of Capricorn, from December 19, 2021-January 29, 2022.] Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions increases.

Whenever we do something for the first time, we create a birth chart for what we did – the best example is when we get married to someone, we give birth to our marriage to that person and in so doing, we create a birth chart for the marriage. In Magi Astrology, we refer to the creation of the marriage chart as a Natalization of the Marriage Chart. When we marry we natalize a marriage chart. The better the marriage chart, the better the marriage.
When a person makes love to anyone for the first time, the two persons natalize a their Love Making Chart – how good or bad that astrological chart is will actually predetermine the course of the couple’s sex life with each other. The better the Love Making Chart is, then the better the love making of the couple will be with each other.
We also natalize a birth chart whenever we complete a single-step activity like buying anything or signing an agreement. So when we purchase a smart phone, the act of purchasing the phone natalizes the birth chart of the phone ownership – if this chart is bad the phone will likely be lost or damaged or stop working prematurely.

Les pages de sa Syntaxe mathématique, plus connue sous le nom d’Almageste (Le grand traité), reprennent partie les données et observations d’un autre astronome alexandrin, Hipparque de Nicée. Dans son Traité d’astrologie, Claude Ptolémée nous transmet le résultat de plus de sept siècles de science grecque.
Le Tetrabiblos fut l’ouvrage le plus célèbre de l’Antiquité. Il exerça et exerce encore une grande influence dans l’étude des corps célestes de la sphère sublunaire.

Rooftop rescues in Australia as tens of thousands evacuated from floods

Brisbane (Australia) (AFP) - Tens of thousands of Australians were ordered to flee their homes Monday, as torrential rain sent floodwaters to record levels, leaving residents stranded on the rooftops of their homes.
Eight people have died, and the country’s weather bureau has warned further severe thunderstorms and intense rainfall will cause “life-threatening flash flooding” across a swathe of the central Pacific coastal region.
In the country town of Lismore, resident Danika Hardiman woke Monday morning to find mud-brown floodwaters had reached the balcony of her second-floor apartment.
She and her partner managed to climb up to the roof, where they were spotted by passing kayakers, who flagged down a makeshift rescue boat.
“We were rescued by two guys in a boat, two locals,” Hardiman told AFP, describing the scenes in Lismore as “horrific”.
“Imagine you’re in a boat sailing past people’s roofs,” she said.
“The scary thing is this is just the beginning, there’s lots of rain to come.”
With the town’s levees already breached, 43,000 residents were ordered to leave by this morning.
Emergency services were overwhelmed by calls for aid, leading some locals – including Lismore’s mayor Steve Krieg – to turn to social media for help.
“If anyone has a boat and can get to Engine Street, there’s a pregnant lady sitting on her roof. HELP Please,” he posted on Facebook Monday.
Emergency rescue services said they had also deployed a helicopter to pluck other stranded residents from rooftops.
More than 400 millimetres (16 inches) of rain has fallen in the past 24 hours around Lismore, with the town’s Wilson River still rising, according to the weather bureau.
Water levels in Lismore have not yet reached their expected peak of 14 metres – but they are already the worst floods the town has experienced.
- A miraculous rescue -
Flooding across eastern Australia has now killed eight people, after a man in his 50s died Monday when his car was swept away by floodwaters in the northern state of Queensland.
Millions of people have been told to stay home and nearly 1,000 schools in Queensland remain closed because of the floods.
A 70-year-old man miraculously survived after his houseboat, swept along by the raging Brisbane River, collided with a ferry terminal and quickly sank.
Members of the public were able to rescue the man, with one telling public broadcaster ABC they had linked arms to create a human chain and fish the man from the river unharmed.
“I don’t know how he survived it, to be honest,” onlooker Matthew Toomey said.
Rain has battered eastern Australia for the better part of a week as an extreme weather system – the tail end of a wet summer fuelled by La Nina – has moved south down the country’s coast, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Monday that some regions of her tropical state had experienced a year’s worth of rainfall in just days.
Australia has been on the sharp end of climate change, with droughts, deadly bushfires, bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef and floods becoming more common and more intense as global climate patterns change.

Ukraine calls for 'immediate ceasefire' as talks with Russia open

Ukrainian officials said a gas pipeline in eastern Kharkiv and an oil depot near the capital Kyiv were targeted by Russian forces overnight
Kyiv (AFP) - Russia and Ukraine met Monday for their first talks since the outbreak of war last week, with Kyiv demanding an “immediate ceasefire” as the number of refugees fleeing the country hit more than 500,000.
As the delegations arrived for talks on the border between Belarus and Ukraine on day five of Moscow’s invasion, the Ukrainian presidency demanded the ceasefire “and the withdrawal of troops” – which Moscow is almost certain to reject.
“I do not really believe in the outcome of this meeting, but let them try,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
Severe financial sanctions imposed by the West on Moscow showed their impact on financial markets on Monday morning, with the Russian ruble collapsing to a record low and the Russian central bank more than doubling interest rates to 20 percent.
The sanctions targeting the Russian financial sector are intended to change the calculus of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, but on the ground the roughly 100,000 Russian troops thought to be inside Ukraine continued an invasion from the north, east and south.
Western defence officials and the Kyiv government say battling Ukrainian troops have kept the country’s major cities out of Russian hands despite incursions in the capital Kyiv and the second largest city, Kharkiv, over the weekend.
Talks between Ukraine and Russia
“The Russian occupiers have reduced the pace of the offensive,” the general staff of the Ukrainian armed forces said Monday, again claiming that Moscow had suffered “heavy losses”.
The small southern city of Berdyansk has been occupied by Russian soldiers, however, Ukrainian officials said.
In the capital Monday, after a relatively calm evening, people rushed out to buy food after the lifting of a strict blanket curfew imposed Saturday, with local forces given shoot-on-sight orders over the weekend.
Amid reports of further Russian troop movements towards Kyiv, Moscow said it had now “gained air superiority over the entire territory of Ukraine”, while accusing Ukrainian troops of using civilians as human shields.
Putin on Sunday ordered Russia’s nuclear forces onto high alert in response to what he called “unfriendly” steps by the West, whose unity and speed in imposing sanctions on the Russian economy has surprised observers.
“The Western sanctions on Russia are hard, but our country has the necessary potential to compensate the damage,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists Monday.
- Economic pressure -
The UN’s refugee agency UNHCR said over half a million people have fled Ukraine since the invasion Thursday.
“More than 500,000 refugees have now fled from Ukraine into neighbouring countries,” UN refugee chief Filippo Grandi said in a tweet.
The grim figure came as talks got underway at the Belarus-Ukraine border on Monday included Ukraine’s defence minister and other officials from Ukraine and Russia.
Kyiv had been initially reluctant to send a delegation to Belarus, given the country’s role in facilitating Russia’s attack on Ukraine by hosting troops and weaponry used in the invasion.

“We definitely have an interest in reaching some agreements as soon as possible,” Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to Putin who has travelled to Belarus for the talks, said in televised remarks.
Zelensky meanwhile issued another video address, wearing his now trademark green khaki sweatshirt, calling on the European Union to agree to “the immediate accession of Ukraine via a new special procedure”.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, gave her personal support on Sunday in an interview with the Euronews channel, but without specifying a timeframe.
“They are one of us and we want them in,” she said.
The weekend featured a momentous series of announcements from Europe, with Germany unveiling a historic change in its security and defence policies and the EU saying it would buy and supply arms for the first time.
“With the invasion of Ukraine, we are now in a new era,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told parliament while announcing a huge hike in military spending that reverses decades of reluctance to invest in defence.
The EU announced it would provide 450 million euros ($500 million) for Ukraine to buy weapons, including Russian-made fighter jets that Ukrainian pilots could operate.
It also announced restrictions on Kremlin-run media outlets RT and Sputnik.
- Financial hit -
Fresh sanctions announced over the weekend on Russia’s economy are intended to cut it off from the global financial system, impeding trade with Russian companies and inflicting deep economic pain on the country.
Russia’s central bank announced Monday it was more than doubling its key interest rate to 20 percent, dramatically raising the cost of borrowing, because the economy’s situation had “drastically changed”.
The value of the ruble collapsed against the dollar on Monday, down 20 percent in midday trading, while the Moscow Stock Market was closed for the day.
The ruble was trading at around 100 to the dollar, worth around a third of its value compared with 2014 when Putin annexed the Ukrainian province of Crimea.
The West has prevented some Russian banks from accessing the SWIFT bank system, which is used to settle international trade, and has frozen Russian central bank assets held overseas, depriving Moscow of access to these emergency funds.
The European Central Bank warned Monday that the European subsidiary of the Russian state-owned Sberbank was facing bankruptcy.
EU member states have also closed their airspace to Russian planes.
- 500,000 fled -
International diplomacy is set to continue Monday with the UN General Assembly set to hold a rare emergency session Monday to discuss the conflict.
Elsewhere, efforts to isolate Moscow internationally saw global football body FIFA order Russia to play its home international fixtures in neutral venues and warned it was considering banning it from the 2022 World Cup.
Ukraine has reported 352 civilian deaths, including 14 children, while its army claims that it has killed 4,300 Russian troops.
Russia has acknowledged that a number of its forces had been killed or injured, without giving figures.
The UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet said Monday at least 102 civilians, including seven children, had been killed in Ukraine.
Putin has said Russia’s actions are justified because it is defending Moscow-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine.
The rebels have been fighting Ukrainian government forces for eight years in a conflict that has killed more than 14,000 people.
